Abergavenny, in Gwent, Monmouthshire, is a Welsh town with a rich, agricultural heritage. Situated on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, it is connected to the east and West by the A40 and to the south by the A4042, which gives access to the M4, Bristol and Newport.

Abergavenny's official website describes the town as the "Gateway to South Wales", offering "Mountains, Markets and More..." Situated alongside the River Usk in the Usk Valley, Abergavenny and nearby Llanfoist and Deriside are almost surrounded by mountains and hills, most notably the Sugar Loaf and Blorenge mountains.

The town's history is a long one, stretching back to Roman times, when it was built as a fort guarding the road along the Usk Valley. Today, Abergavenny plays host to a regular cattle market which has been running on its present site since 1863. Both cattle and lambs/sheep are sold on the site, and the town also has regular retail, flea and farmers markets.

Abergavenny also has a number of other attractions that draw visitors to the area. Open since 1843, the Linda Vista (Beautiful View Gardens) offers great views and rare varieties of orchids. Abergavenny Castle is also popular, as one of the finest remaining examples of a motte and bailey castle in the UK.
