The Lancashire town of Accrington is situated just south of the M65 motorway. It's midway between Blackburn to the west and Burnley to the east. Accrington is in the Hyndburn district of Lancashire - so named because of the River Hyndburn, which runs through the town.

Accrington is a historic town that's popular with visitors to the area. Formerly a mill town, Accrington's population of 35,000 is more diversely employed today. Many people commute to Manchester, 20 miles to the south as well as to nearby Blackburn, Burnley and Preston.

Villages in close proximity to Accrington include Church, Oswaldtwistle, Rishton, Clayton-le-Moors, Great Harwood and Huncoat. The town is also home to Accrington Stanley Football Club - one of the best known small teams in English football.

Accrington is also famous for the Accrington Pals - the name given to the 11th East Lancashire Regiment, the smallest 'pals' battalion that fought in World War I. Pals battalions were an idea of then war secretary Lord Kitchener, who believed that the prospect of fighting with friends and local men would encourage greater numbers of volunteers to join the army.

The Accrington Pals suffered terrible losses in the Battle of the Somme and a total of 865 Accrington men were killed in World War I. The town's imposing cenotaph lists the names of all of these men.

Despite its modest size, Accrington has its own van hire firm, offering a full range of rental vans for hire:

  • Medium / short wheelbase vans - e.g. Ford Transit, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
  • Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
  • Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master, LDV Maxus
  • Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
