Best known and loved as the largest seaside resort in the north west of England, Blackpool is also the largest town in Lancashire.

Blackpool's growth was kickstarted by the building of a railway branch line enabling visitors to arrive by train from Preston, then a large mill town. The introduction of electric lighting to the promenade in 1879 was a world first, creating an additional attraction for visitors. Today the same spirit lives on in the form of the Blackpool Illuminations.
