Blackpool's airport continued to develop as an airfield in the 1930s and was officially named Blackpool Airport in the 1950s. It was eventually renamed Blackpool International Airport to reflect its growing number of international flights to popular European destinations such as Dublin, Tenerife and Mallorca.
Today, Blackpool International handles around 450,000 passengers per year and in 2009 celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Blackpool Airport is conveniently located just a couple of miles from the end of the M55 motorway and has free passenger car parking for stays of up to 15 days – a valuable service! The airport is also a key base for flights to Irish Sea oil and gas platforms.
