Despite Botley's modest size and its population of just 3,000, Botley's history stretches back as far as Saxon times. The name Botley roughly translates to 'clearing in woods belonging to a man called Bota' - and it is certainly true that the area around Botley would once have been dense woodland.

Today's Botley is more like a suburb of Oxford - although it is slightly outside the boundaries of the city. Botley saw substantial residential growth in the 1930s and this continues today, as the village's proximity to Oxford and major road links makes it an attractive area to live in.

Botley can also boast its own shopping centre and a branch of Oxford Brookes University - although perhaps the most notable landmark is Seacourt Tower, a large office complex complete with its own church-style spire!
