Chichester is the county town of West Sussex, in the south of England. It's actually a city, thanks to its historic cathedral, and is located on the A27, the main east-west road along the central south coast.
One of England's smaller cathedral cities, Chichester is the county town of West Sussex, in the south-east of the country. The city is known both for its architecture and its artistic and literary credentials. Chichester cathedral is somewhat quirky - its spire was rebuilt during the 19th century and its bell tower is in a separate building, a short distance away from the main cathedral. It also contains a memorial to one-time Chichester MP William Huskisson - who has the unfortunate distinction of being the first person ever to be run over by a train!
For many visitors, Chichester's main attraction is the Chichester's Festival Theatre. The Festival Theatre hosts an annual drama festival and is popular with top actors looking for an alternative to the West End. Chichester itself is also conveniently close to the Goodwood Racecourse and the beautiful South Downs area.
Chichester is also home to several music festivals - including the Chichester RAJF and the annual Blues on the Farm - the UK's largest outdoor blues festival. Less obvious, thanks to its inland location, is that Chichester has its own harbour, the location of the second-largest marina in the UK. Chichester harbour is actually a little south of the town, located between Selsey and Hayling Island.
As you'd expect from a city, Chichester has its own van hire firms which offer the usual wide selection of types of rental vans:
- Medium / short wheelbase vans - e.g. Ford Transit, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Volkswagen Transporter
- Small vans - e.g. Vauxhall Combo, Ford Transit Connect, VW Caddy
- Large / long wheelbase vans - e.g. Mercedes Sprinter XLWB, Ford Transit LWB, Renault Master, LDV Maxus
- Luton vans & box vans (3.5 tonne / 3.5t).
