The Scottish town of Dumfries is in the Dumfries and Galloway region of the south west of Scotland, close to the Solway Firth (the mouth of the River Nith).

Well known as the one-time home of Scots poet Robert Burns, Dumfries today is a fairly quiet town sits on the Great Western Railway line - providing good access to Glasgow and Carlisle. Dumfries' road connections are also good - it is directly linked to the A74(M) by the A75 - which also runs to Stranraer, providing ferry access to Ireland.
