East Midlands Airport is located just off Junction 24A of the M1, near the village of Castle Donington. It's convenient, central location (near to Nottingham, Leicester, Loughborough and Derby) in the East Midlands has meant that it has become a popular airport with both passengers and cargo operators. East Midlands Airport currently handles around 5.5m passengers a year and around 300,000 tonnes of freight - making it the second largest freight airport in the UK after London Heathrow.
