Walthamstow is part of the London Borough of Waltham Forest. Situated north east of the city centre, Walthamstow is a primarily residential area that, like many London towns, was a rural village until the 19th century, when industrialisation and the railways caused massive growth in and around London.
Today’s Walthamstow is a popular place to live and benefits from a direct rail link to London Liverpool Street – making it ideal for commuters. It’s also close to the southern end of the M11 motorway – making it easy to get away from London, too.
Walthamstow was once home to famed writer and designer William Morris. The town now has a William Morris Gallery, which is the only public museum dedicated to his work. Other attractions include Ridgeway Park, which has a model railway and a putting green, and Vestry House Museum, a local history museum.
