The industrial town of Scunthorpe is located in the county of North Lincolnshire, in the east of England. The local football club, Scunthorpe United F.C. (nicknamed The Iron), used to field Sir Ian Botham, the former England cricketer as a player, along with Kevin Keegan! The club's nickname probably refers to Scunthorpe's long history as a major centre of the UK steel industry.
Scunthorpe is a popular retail centre for the surrounding area. The nearest other sizeable towns and cities are Hull, Doncaster and Grimsby.
